OPTI is a tool for athletes designed to help maintain their optimum performance 

OPTI is a multi product platform that utilizes a tiny drone equipped with a camera that can rotate 360 degrees that captures the movements of its user via AI recognition software to show technical performance such timing, speed, angles, and motion. A mouthpiece made up of a firm moldable silicone that fits discretely and securely onto the users teeth. OPTI's design is focused around technique, nutrition, and visualization

Drone

OPTI Drone is a small, lightweight analyzing companion that orients itself around its user to capture a multitude of angels. The body is cased in an aluminum shell for durability and has Ai capabilities to analyze and communicate through IOT your optimum technique.

Mouthpiece

OPTI Piece is your personal nutritionist, providing you with real time information about the current level of nutrients in your body. Opti Piece  does this with the use of saliva analyzing technology which can detect what nutrients are in your system. The outer layer is built out of a malleable polymer, which stays firm after it has been molded. The inner layer is made out of a soft gel like silicon. This special silicone molds perfectly to the individuals teeth, providing comfort and stability. Paired with our special coating that is saliva slip resistant, one can be sure that the Opti Piece will fit comfortably and securely.

App

Opti uses visualization to connect virtual and physical platforms. Opti is distinctly separated by color into nutrition and technique. This enables the user to understand and process information in a

more efficient manner.

Opti uses a IOT connectivity between physical devices and apps to analyze, learn and convey information through visualization. This enables the athletes to be able to learn and understand their bodies in a more holistic and efficient manner.

The Goal with focusing on technique is to enable athletes to perform more consistently at their best performance. We want to allow athletes to understand their motions, allowing them to improve, maintain, and prevent injuries.

The Goal with focusing on nutrition is to allow athletes to understand their bodies. we want to create a tool that gives athletes the opportunity to visualize what is in their bodies at that moment in time and what they need.

The Goal is to enable athletes to visualize their nutritional and technical state in a clear and efficient manner.

Research

For our research we wanted to see which areas effected the athletes performance the most, and where we could find opportunity spaces for design.
 

We interviewed several athletes and experts in the athletic field and sent out a questionnaire as well. From our interviews and responses, we found many common threads.

Current apps for health tracking are redundant and

un-efficient

 

Although video analysis tools are a good starting point for coaches and athletes they are prone to user errors

 

With the technological advances we have there is no

proper way to track nutrient intake and know what

nutrients are lacking in real time.

Insights

Most athletes wants to improve and sustain their game/ technique but don't have the resources to find out how to optimize themselves for their best performance.

Additionally, a good nutrition and overall health was very important to most athletes, however they never know exactly what their nutritional state is or know how to get to their best nutritional state, and found that methods that were suppose top help ultimately ended up being time consuming and annoying.

Another important insight we found was that there are a lot of sport improvement tools available, but few that focus on working on maintaining the best performances that the athlete is already capable of and being able to find improvement areas.

 

Technique

Technique is essential for all kinds of sports. In order to perform the sport, the physical movement of body parts has to be coordinated with the purpose of the movement. The movement should be executed in the most efficient way. → Understanding where you are going wrong → Be able to maintain with changes in the body

 

Nutrition

Nutrition is a major part that plays into an athletes performance. Health is the key to the level of performance an athlete does. Every person's body is different and needs its own form of nutrients. Some might need more of one type others might need more of another. In order to perform at that optimum level the athlete needs to consume specific foods, according to his own individual body and sport.

Alice- user Persona

Alise plays basketball for the university of Georgia. She got a full ride scholarship, but recently has been struggling with her performance. 

Her Goal is to keep her scholarship for the next two years and then go pro once she graduates.

Currently she has a shoulder injury due to bad technique, but she has difficulties understanding the problem and changing her technique. In addition to this she often feels exhausted without any reason. She thinks that it maybe has to do with a food intolerance but she doesn't know what it could be.

The season for the Georgia Bulldogs starts in 2 months and she really wants to perform well.

Problem

Athletes lack a tool they can use in order to stay at their optimum performance physically & nutritionally

Opportunity Space

  • Athletes don’t have an efficient way to measure their vitals that can help them achieve maximum performance 

  • Coaches and the players don’t have the tools to pin-point errors ‘exactly’ in the game. 

  • There is no form of direct connectivity between different devices, athletic trainers, coaches, doctors, nutritionist  and the athlete.  

Concept Development

At the beginning of our ideation, we wanted to cast the net of ideas as far and wide as possible. We had to come up with ideas on how we might be able to capture the data needed to provide reliable information about technique and nutrition.

 

In order to come up with further concepts we had to go through another stage of research, this time more specifically towards figuring out how to capture the technical and nutritional aspect of the many

athletic fields.

We researched a variety technologies to find a way to capture the physical and nutritional state of an athlete.

Drones, body sensors, eye wear and clothing were a few of our design considerations for capturing physical movement. To capture a live analysis of a persons nutritional state, we considered micro implants, smart tattoos, micro bio sensors, and blood analysis.

After further research and consideration, it was decided that a drone with AI capabilities would be best to capture an athletes physical states due to its flexibility and ability to orient itself around its known user and record what is necessary. To capture an athletes live nutritional state, we learned that most nutrients can be measured through our own saliva
